Former Acting Chief Justice Of Allahabad High Court VK Shukla Passes Away; Lawyer Organizations Pay Tribut

Former Justice VK Shukla of the Allahabad High Court passed away suddenly today, Saturday, June 29. His last rites will be performed on Sunday, June 30, at Rasulabad Ghat.

After retiring from the High Court in 2017, Justice Shukla continued his legal career by practicing at the Supreme Court. Known for his popularity, he also served as the General Secretary of the High Court Bar Association.

Born on June 3, 1955, in Allahabad, Justice Shukla completed his primary education and went on to obtain a BA in 1977 and a law degree in 1980. He began practicing at the Allahabad High Court and was appointed as a High Court Judge in December 2012. He also served as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court following the elevation of the current Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, to the Supreme Court.

Justice Shukla’s father, the late Mukund Kant Shukla, was a well-known criminal lawyer. His son, Prashant Shukla, continues the family tradition as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court.

The news of his sudden demise has caused a wave of mourning among the lawyers of the High Court. Numerous legal professionals have expressed their condolences, including High Court Bar Association President Anil Tiwari, General Secretary Vikrant Pandey, State Government’s Additional Advocate General MC Chaturvedi, Chief Standing Counsel SP Gaur, and advocates Manoj Kumar Singh, Alok Kumar Tripathi, Ramanand Pandey, Vijay Gautam, Krishna G Shukla, Akhilesh Sharma, Arun Kumar Mishra, and Mrityunjay Tiwari.

Organizations that have paid their condolences include the Prabuddh Advocates Association, represented by President Birendra Prasad Shukla; Prayagraj Advocates Association, with President N.K. Chatterjee and Secretary Rajesh Tripathi; Young Lawyers Association, with President Santosh Kumar Tripathi and Secretary J.B. Singh; and the UP Junior Lawyers Association, with President Mithilesh Tiwari and Secretary G.P. Singh.

Additionally, former officials such as Nimai Das, B.P. Singh Kachwahi, and Manish, along with members of the Advocates Coordination Committee, including Devendra Pratap Singh, Pramod Pratap Singh, and C.B. Singh, have expressed their sorrow. The High Court Bar Association’s former Joint Secretary Mahendra Bahadur Singh, Santosh Kumar Mishra, Ashutosh Tripathi, Abhishek Mishra, and Vice President of Adarsh Advocates Association Pooja Mishra, along with General Secretary Sabhajit Singh, and President of Junior Advocates Association Shailendra Dwivedi, V.P. Shukla, Akhilesh Tripathi, and Akhilesh Shukla have also offered their condolences.
