Floods Wreck Havoc In Sikkim

Three dead and 23 Army personnel are reported missing in flash floods that started from 01 :30 AM. The floods were reported to have occurred due to sudden cloud burst at Lhonak lake in North Sikkim.  State Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has taken stock of the situation and said that the rescue operations are underway.

Central government has assured all possible help. In his twitter handle Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his sorrow. He has spoken to the Chief Minister and assured all help to the effected state.

All schools located in Mangan, Gangtok, Pakyong and Namchi districts  will remain closed till October 8. This was announced by the education department. However, water levels on River Tista is below the danger levels but is approaching near this mark.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) due to this cloudburst medium to heavy rainfall are likely to take place in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal for the next three to four days. This is because a low pressure area is moving toward these states following the cloudburst.

Chief Minister Tamang has appealed the people to be more careful . Death toll touched to five according to the latest update.
