Fire in hospital: On Sunday, a fire broke out in the basement of a multi-story hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, prompting the evacuation of about 125 patients as a precaution, according to officials.
According to a fire official, the building was undergoing renovations when various objects stored in the basement caught fire and produced a lot of smoke. According to early reports, the fire started at around 4.30 am in the basement of Rajasthan Hospital, which is situated in the city’s Sahibaug district, said Champavat.
“Fire fighting teams are working to control the blaze. Smoke continues to emanate from the basement of the hospital where the fire broke out,” he said. “Nearly 125 patients have been evacuated and shifted to different hospitals as a precautionary measure,” the police inspector said.
According to preliminary information, the fire started at 4.30 am in the basement of Rajasthan Hospital, which is located in the Sahibaug neighbourhood of the city, said a police official from the Sahibaug police station.
“Fire fighting teams are working to control the blaze. Smoke continues to emerge from the basement of the hospital where the fire broke out,” police inspector MD Champavat said.
“Nearly 100 patients have been evacuated from the multi-storey building as a precautionary measure,” he added.
It has not yet been possible to ascertain what started the fire. A charitable trust manages the hospital.
