A sudden fire engulfed two bogies of the 15004 UP Chauri Chaura Express on its route from Gorakhpur to Anwarganj Kanpur, causing panic among passengers and disrupting railway operations.
The incident occurred at Bharwari railway station around 9:20 AM on Wednesday, triggering a swift response from railway personnel.
Smoke billowed from the affected bogies on the train, alarming the passengers and causing a stampede-like situation.
Fortunately, the train was decelerating as it approached Bharwari station, mitigating the risk of a major catastrophe.
Railway staff, including the loco pilot and station master, acted swiftly to inform technical teams and initiate firefighting measures.
Utilizing fire extinguishers and the switch fire infrastructure at Bharwari station, railway employees managed to control the blaze before it could spread further.
The restoration of electric supply to Overhead Equipment (OHE) enabled the resumption of train movement on the downline by approximately 10:10 AM.
However, trains heading towards New Delhi on the upline experienced delays due to the incident.
Himanshu Shekhar, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway (NCR), stated that they formed an inquiry panel including representatives from mechanical, safety, and operational departments to investigate the fire’s cause.
The inquiry’s findings are anticipated to illuminate the circumstances that led to the incident.
Following the extinguishing of the fire and completion of necessary investigations, the Chaurichaura Express resumed its journey towards Kanpur around 10:10 AM.
The prompt and coordinated response of railway personnel helped avert a potential disaster, underscoring the importance of preparedness and quick action in such emergencies.
