Enforcement Agencies Seize Rs 5.71 Cr In Jammu and Kashmir Amid MCC Enforcement

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that enforcement agencies have seized Rs 5.71 crore worth of cash, drugs, and liquor in Jammu and Kashmir. This action occurred within the first 12 days of enforcing the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

To maintain electoral integrity, the ECI has implemented strict measures. The seized items were intended to influence voters in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election 2024. The elections are scheduled to start on September 18, 2024, and will occur in three phases. Over 88 lakh voters are expected to participate.

The police seized Rs 5.02 crore worth of items, while the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) recovered goods valued at Rs 11 lakh. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office reported these findings.

A Command and Control Room has been established at the CEO offices in Jammu and Srinagar. This room, along with mini-control rooms in each District Election Officer (DEO) office, operates 24/7. These rooms monitor electronic media channels and social media platforms. If violations are detected, reports are sent to the concerned Returning Officer (RO) or Assistant Returning Officer (ARO), who then issues notices.
