The incident caused alarm among other passengers in the AC three-tier compartment, especially in light of a recent similar incident on the Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express, where a passenger died after a berth collapsed on him while traveling from Kerala to Delhi.

According to a fellow passenger traveling with Ray on the Uttar Banga Express, the accident occurred as the train was approaching Sealdah railway station. The middle berth’s chain snapped, causing it to fall and injure Ray severely.

Upon reaching the station, fellow passengers rushed Ray, who was bleeding profusely, to the station master. From there, he was immediately taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital for medical attention. After treatment, Ray was discharged from the hospital but remains under medical advice to rest at home for some time.
