ED Raids Multiple Locations In RG Kar College Financial Irregularities Probe

On Thursday, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials intensified their investigation into financial irregularities at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College & Hospital with coordinated raids at three key locations.

These operations included a search at the ancestral residence of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the institution.

The raids targeted Ghosh’s ancestral home in New Town, situated on Kolkata’s northern outskirts, as well as the residence of Chandan Louha in Tala, North Kolkata, and a chemist and druggist shop in Kalindi, also in North Kolkata.

The authorities carried out the operations under the protection of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel.

Sources indicate that Louha, a close associate of Ghosh, allegedly operated an unauthorized cafeteria within the RG Kar premises, facilitated by Ghosh’s patronage.

Documents linking the Kalindi chemist shop to RG Kar’s financial transactions during Ghosh’s tenure prompted the search.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting a separate, court-monitored probe into the financial misconduct, focusing on broader aspects of the case.

In contrast, the ED’s investigation centers specifically on money laundering.

The ED’s probe was initiated independently following the filing of an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR).

Preliminary findings from the ED suggest significant financial misconduct, including the exploitation of shell companies to manipulate tender processes for medical equipment and infrastructure contracts.

The ED has uncovered evidence of Ghosh receiving substantial commissions for awarding contracts illicitly.

Currently, Ghosh is in judicial custody, facing charges related to these financial irregularities.
