ED Files ECIR Against Former RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandip Ghosh

The ongoing investigation into financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital has taken a new turn as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against former Principal Sandip Ghosh.

The ED’s involvement comes on the heels of an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has already begun probing the allegations.

According to sources, the ED’s focus will be on potential money laundering activities linked to the financial misconduct that allegedly took place during Ghosh’s tenure.

The CBI’s initial investigation, triggered by a Calcutta High Court order, has already uncovered several irregularities, leading to the involvement of the ED, which has broader investigative authority in such cases.

Ghosh, along with former Medical Superintendent & Vice Principal Sanjay Vashisth and Forensic Medicine Department demonstrator Debasish Som, has been questioned by CBI officials.

The FIR implicates Ghosh and three business entities Maa Tara Traders, Ehsan Café, and Kham Louha as key players in the financial mismanagement.

Maa Tara Traders, in particular, is likely to have had undue influence in securing medical supply contracts due to its proprietor’s close ties with Ghosh.

The CBI’s investigation is examining multiple aspects of the case, including 15 specific allegations of financial misconduct.

The main charge is the awarding of contracts to private entities without the required approvals from the state health department and the college council.

As the ED begins its probe, Ghosh and his associates are likely to face intense scrutiny from both the ED and CBI, potentially leading to further revelations in this expanding investigation.
