ECI Extends Delhi SIR Claims, Objections Deadline To October 30

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has granted Delhi electors an additional month to submit claims and objections linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), setting October 30 as the new deadline.

Officials will now have until November 30 to resolve notices and review submissions.

The previous cut-off for people missing from the draft electoral roll was September 30. They were required to file Form 6 along with relevant supporting documents.

The Commission revised the schedule following a request from Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar chaired the meeting, attended by Election Commissioners SS Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

The panel approved changes to the procedure for electors who receive SIR notices.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit the homes of people identified as unmapped or having logical discrepancies, gather their documents and upload them to ECINet for the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to decide.

The ECI said officials should not generally require these electors to appear at ERO or Assistant ERO offices.

If an ERO considers a hearing necessary, the official should preferably hold it online in exceptional cases. An elector may authorise an adult family member to attend on their behalf.

The Commission has moved Maharashtra’s claims and objections deadline to October 12 and extended the disposal date to November 10.

The earlier deadline for resolving claims was October 3.

The ECI said the revision process has concluded in 20 states and Union Territories, including Bihar and West Bengal.

Anyone omitted from the rolls, including young and first-time electors, may seek enrolment through continuous updation by applying to the relevant ERO.

The final elector total for Phase III will be available after the remaining 12 states publish their final rolls.
