Dumper Collides With Public Bus In Hazira; One Dead And Over 25 Injured

A tragic accident occurred this morning in Hazira, Gujarat, when a dumper collided with a public bus, resulting in the death of one person and leaving over 25 passengers injured. The bus, which was carrying around 50 passengers, overturned following the crash, creating chaos at the scene.

The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to overturn, trapping several passengers inside the bus. As soon as the accident occurred, local residents rushed to the site to assist in rescuing those trapped. Their prompt actions helped alleviate the initial confusion at the crash site.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, with eight 108 ambulances and several private ambulances dispatched to transport the injured to nearby hospitals for immediate treatment. The severity of the injuries led to a swift and coordinated effort by the medical teams to ensure the victims received timely care.

Police Clear Traffic Congestion

Within minutes of the incident, local police arrived at the site to manage the situation. They worked efficiently to clear the traffic congestion caused by the accident, allowing emergency vehicles and other responders to access the scene. Authorities are now conducting a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

The body of the deceased has been sent for a post-mortem, and authorities have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Local police are expected to release more details in the coming days as they continue to piece together information.

Hazira: A Hub Of Industrial Activity

Hazira, located near Surat, is a major industrial and port town known for its economic significance. The town is home to large-scale industries such as Essar Steel (AMNS), ONGC, Kribhco, Shell, and Larsen & Toubro (L&T). These industries specialize in sectors including steel production, petrochemicals, power generation, and shipbuilding, contributing significantly to Gujarat’s economy.

This tragic accident in Hazira highlights the growing road safety concerns in Gujarat. In 2022, the state reported 15,751 road accidents, an increase from 15,186 in 2021, resulting in over 7,000 fatalities. Speeding continues to be identified as the primary cause of these accidents.

Between 2020 and 2023, Gujarat averaged 21 deaths daily from road accidents. The number of fatalities increased from 6,281 in 2020-21 to 7,656 in 2022-23, reflecting an 18 percent rise. In July 2023 alone, the state experienced 11,678 road accidents, which translates to approximately 18 injuries every hour.

Alarming Injury Statistics

In addition to fatalities, injury statistics are also concerning. In the first seven months of 2024, Gujarat recorded 92,983 injury cases from road accidents, with Ahmedabad reporting the highest number—15,489 incidents during this period. The state is grappling with a significant rise in both injuries and fatalities, calling for urgent attention to road safety measures.
