Akhilesh Yadav Accuses BJP Of Irregularities In Milkipur By-Poll; Calls Election Commission ‘Dead’

On Thursday, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged irregularities in the Milkipur by-poll in Uttar Pradesh. He accused the BJP of unfair practices and calling the Election Commission ‘dead’.

Yadav told ANI, “This is the manner in which BJP contests elections. Election Commission is dead. We will have to gift them white cloth.”

A day earlier, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the police were checking voters’ ID cards. In a post on social media, he urged the Election Commission to take action against those responsible.

Taking to X, the SP chief posted, “The Election Commission should immediately take cognizance of the pictures related to this news that Ayodhya police is checking the ID cards of voters in Milkipur, in which senior police officers are also involved. This is a democratic crime of indirectly influencing voting by creating fear among voters.”

In response, Ayodhya Police denied the allegations, clarifying that they were checking the ID cards of booth agents, not voters.

“The above photo is of the booth agent’s identity card, the person seen in the photo is a booth agent of a candidate which has been verified by seeing his identity card. Please do not make misleading tweets,” Ayodhya Police posted on X.

Samajwadi Party’s candidate for the Milkipur assembly by-elections, Ajit Prasad, discussed the voting process with ANI and raised concerns about possible interference from certain elements.

“The votes are in favour of the Samajwadi Party, but some mischievous elements are trying to influence the voters. The police here are also pressurising the voters to not vote for the Samajwadi Party, but the people of Milkipur are only voting for us,” Prasad told ANI.

Ajit Prasad alleged that authorities were restricting his party’s polling agents from entering the booths.

“I am receiving complaints that our agents are being denied access to the polling booths,” he further asserted.

The by-election in Milkipur saw a voter turnout of 57.13% on Wednesday.
