Dr. Rajeshwar Singh made history in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly as he became the first member to deliver a speech in English.
His address focused on the state’s annual budget, introduced by CM Yogi Adityanath and Finance Minister Suresh Khanna.
He praised the ₹8.8 lakh crore budget, calling it the most inclusive and development-focused in the state’s history.
With a revenue surplus of ₹79,000 crore and a controlled deficit of 2.97%, Singh emphasized the budget’s role in ensuring sustainable growth for Uttar Pradesh.
He congratulated both Yogi Adityanath and Suresh Khanna for their vision and leadership in presenting this ambitious fiscal plan.
During his speech, Dr. Singh also took a direct swipe at the Samajwadi Party’s opposition to English.
Referring to it as a “bridge to global opportunities,” Singh argued that English is indispensable for progress, given that leading global universities and the internet primarily use English.
He noted that over 50% of university courses worldwide are taught in English, and 60% of online content is available in English.
He described the opposition’s stance as outdated, stressing the need for English to ensure Uttar Pradesh’s global engagement and access to modern opportunities.
Dr. Singh’s speech marked a milestone for both language inclusivity and progressive governance in Uttar Pradesh.
He praised the state’s historic budget as part of a broader effort to foster growth and development, particularly in areas like digital literacy and global connectivity.
The BJP government continues to focus on fiscal discipline, inclusive growth, and technological advancements as Uttar Pradesh strengthens its position on the national stage.
As the state looks ahead, discussions like these will shape its policy and create opportunities for all communities.
