On the occasion of World Earth Day, celebrated globally on April 22, Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh voiced serious concerns about the escalating environmental crisis and called on the younger generation to become more conscious of nature and its preservation.
Dr Singh took to social media to highlight the pressing environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, and the biodiversity crisis, emphasising that these challenges are sounding urgent alarms.
He warned that if society does not take timely and meaningful action, the future could become increasingly difficult.
He stressed, “Environmental protection must not remain a one-day event or a movement—it should become an integral part of our lifestyle.”
Highlighting the need for early education, Dr Singh said that sensitivity and awareness towards nature must be instilled from student life.
He pointed out that the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council enrols over 55 lakh students, including 27.40 lakh high school students.
He emphasised that making these students environmentally aware should be a government priority.
Dr Singh revealed that he wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, requesting the introduction of environmental conservation as a compulsory subject at the secondary education level.
He wrote, “Only when children learn to view nature not just as a resource but as a revered motherland, will genuine environmental protection be possible.”
Dr Singh’s appeal underscores a growing recognition of the need for policy-level intervention to foster long-term environmental stewardship.
As the world grapples with mounting ecological threats, his proposal aligns with broader calls for education-driven solutions to secure a greener future.
