Dr Mandaviya Leads Nationwide Fit India Cycling Drive

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya led a nationwide cycling event on June 29, 2025. He serves as Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment.

The event was part of the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative. It aimed to promote fitness and healthy living across India. Thousands of people participated in cycling events nationwide.

Dr Mandaviya led the main event in Palitana, Gujarat. His participation inspired citizens to embrace fitness through cycling.

Held in Palitana, Gujarat, the event witnessed participation from thousands across the country, making it one of India’s largest fitness drives.

Dr Mandaviya addressed the gathering in his hometown. He highlighted the journey of the Fit India Movement.

The campaign began in 2019 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It started as a small step toward a fitter nation.

Now, it has grown into a widespread national movement. The initiative blends fitness with sustainability for long-term impact.

Cycling has become a symbol of health and eco-conscious living. Cycling clubs from across the Bhavnagar district joined the Palitana ride.

The initiative extended across 6,000 locations, involving sanitation workers, municipal staff, police personnel, students, volunteers, and local citizens.

In Delhi’s Connaught Place, nearly 1,000 cyclists came together for the event co-hosted by Raahgiri Foundation and the New Delhi Municipal Council.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Babita Phogat attended the event in Delhi as the chief guest. She praised the Fit India campaign for promoting a strong fitness culture.

Babita Phogat said the initiative inspires people to embrace cycling. She believes cycling can become a regular lifestyle choice for many. She appreciated how the campaign encourages both physical and mental well-being.

Fitness engagement

The campaign has not only promoted cycling but also encouraged broader fitness engagement.

Several locations conducted additional activities such as yoga, folk dance, rope skipping, street plays, and Zumba.

In Delhi, the rope skipping segment was led by Dr. Shikha Gupta and her team, drawing enthusiastic participation from youth and families.

Since its launch in December 2024, the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative has seen over 4 lakh participants across more than 11,000 locations.

Over 2,000 cycling clubs actively participate each Sunday, supported by organisations such as Khleo India Centres, SAI Training Centres, and National Centres of Excellence.

The initiative is a joint effort by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Cycling Federation of India, MY Bharat, and Yogasana Bharat.

The movement aims to make cycling a modern trend, combining fitness with environmental consciousness.

With more citizens joining each week, it is becoming a key part of India’s growing culture of health and active living.
