Dr Dinesh Sharma Lauds KGMU’s Medical Excellence During PM Modi’s Birthday Celebrations

King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow witnessed a special celebration on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, which coincided with Vishwakarma Jayanti.

The university hosted Rajya Sabha MP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dr Dinesh Sharma, as the chief guest.

In his address, Dr Sharma emphasised that Indian medical talent, particularly from institutions like KGMU, is on par with — and often ahead of — private medical institutions.

Dr Sharma noted that in a person’s life, their ‘centre of knowledge and action’ — like one’s alma mater — plays a defining role in shaping their identity.

He encouraged students to remain rooted in their educational institutions and never forget the values they imbibe there.

“Doctors and those in the medical profession are like gods for patients,” he said, recalling the critical role of medical professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Student Motivation and Cultural Values

Addressing paramedical students, he urged them to approach their roles with sincerity and compassion.

“Experience comes through service, and sincere treatment brings divine grace,” he said, adding that India’s culture has always emphasised collective well-being through the ideal of ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’.

He also reminded students that determination and enthusiasm are essential in a learner’s life. He advised them to set clear goals and avoid distractions, warning that indecision can be a major obstacle to success.

The event included spiritual elements — instead of cake, a bhog of boondi laddoo was offered to Lord Ganesha in honour of PM Modi’s birthday.

The celebration also paid tribute to Lord Vishwakarma, the deity of creation and craftsmanship, symbolising the fusion of tradition and innovation.

Dr Sharma advocated for the integration of Artificial Intelligence and modern technologies in paramedical education and called for exchange programmes with other top medical universities.

He emphasised the growing national demand for skilled paramedical professionals who can support doctors effectively and instil confidence in patients.

Institutional Pride and Honours

KGMU Vice-Chancellor, Padma Shri Dr Sonia Nityanand, administered an oath of dedication and sincerity to new paramedical students.

She praised the university’s glorious legacy and stressed the importance of integrity in healthcare.

The organisers felicitated Dr Sharma with a commemorative memento and awarded prizes to the winners of various student competitions.

Senior faculty members, including Prof KK Singh (Dean, Paramedical Faculty), Dr Kaur (Pro-Vice Chancellor), and renowned physician Dr Vinod Jain, also attended the event.
