Congress leader Digvijaya Singh expressed his willingness to contest the Lok Sabha elections against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Vidisha.
“I am ready to take on Narendra Modi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, but the party has asked me to fight the election from here (Rajgarh) so I will be in the fray from here,” the 77-year-old Rajya Sabha member told reporters.
His declaration came shortly after MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav questioned why Digvijaya was not contesting elections from Bhopal despite serving as the CM for ten years (1993-2003).
PM Modi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan hold significant influence in their respective constituencies, with Modi representing Varanasi and Chouhan being nominated from Vidisha by the BJP.

Digvijaya’s decision to contest from Rajgarh is in line with indications from the Congress party, although his candidature has not been officially announced yet. He previously contested from Rajgarh in 1991 before assuming the CM position.
In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Digvijaya faced defeat in Bhopal against BJP’s Pragya Singh Thakur. However, the Congress leader remains a prominent figure within the party, with strong ties to the Rajgarh constituency.
His father, Balbhadra Singh, hailed from the royal family of Raghogarh, adding historical significance to Digvijaya’s political legacy in the region. Despite various political shifts and challenges, Digvijaya continues to maintain a strong presence in Rajgarh, where he and his son Jaivardhan Singh, a sitting MLA, engage with party workers and constituents in anticipation of the upcoming elections.
