Shadab Ahmed, accused under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in the Delhi riots case, has been granted interim bail by the Karkardooma Court. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai approved his release from October 29 to November 5 to attend his sister’s wedding. The court set the bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and a surety of the same amount. Ahmed has been in judicial custody since May 2020.
Ahmed requested 20 days of bail, explaining that he is the eldest son and must assist in the wedding arrangements. He highlighted his father’s age and his role as the family’s sole earner. The court had earlier denied his requests for regular and interim bail.
Ahmed is one of 20 people, including Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain, facing charges under UAPA and IPC in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots. The riots left 53 dead and over 700 injured. The case is under investigation by the Delhi Police Special Cell.
