Delhi Rain: Yamuna Water Level Reaches Its Highest In 45 Years, Section 144 In Flood-Prone Regions, Arvind Kejriwal Requests The Center’s Assistance

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, issued a flood alarm after the Haryana government released more than one lakh cusecs of water into the Yamuna River from the HathniKund Barrage in Yamunanagar on Sunday. He plans to turn up at a meeting on Monday.

According to news agency PTI, Kejriwal would also talk about waterlogging brought on by the city’s heavy rains and the rising water levels in the Yamuna.

“According to our estimations, the water level of the Yamuna river will likely cross the danger threshold by tomorrow morning. We are keeping an eye on the water flow in case the rain doesn’t stop. At the Old Yamuna Railway Bridge, it is anticipated that the river would cross the danger mark tomorrow. There have been announcements, and residents of flood plains are being evacuated. According to reports from official organisations cited by news agency PTI, the Yamuna river in Delhi reached a record-breaking 207.55 metres of water on Wednesday, breaking the previous high of 207.49 metres established in 1978.


 The Old Railway Bridge’s water level reached 207 metres for the first time since 2013 around 4 am, according to the Central Water Commission’s (CWC) flood-monitoring portal, and it reached 207.25 metres by 8 am.

The Delhi Traffic Police warned commuters to stay off flooded roads and regions on Wednesday. Additionally, the police enforced Section 144 in the city’s flood-prone regions.

Pragati Maidan Tunnel is currently blocked

After two days of nonstop rain, the Pragati Maidan Tunnel in Delhi has been temporarily blocked to traffic due to waterlogging in many areas of the capital. Sanjeev Kumar, a security guard at the tunnel, stated: “Police personnel closed this yesterday. There are barriers at each gate. The tunnel is shut completely.

1. The Delhi Secretariat will be the location of the meeting with Kejriwal. Senior officials from the irrigation and flood control department as well as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi are anticipated to attend.

7 . On Monday, July 10, all schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region remained closed. Following reports of waterlogging from all around the city, Kejriwal had previously asked government employees to report to work instead of taking their Sundays off.

8. Due to rain and flooded roads in Gurugram, district administration officials announced that schools will be closed on Monday.

9. Due to severe rain, the district magistrate in Gautam Budh Nagar issued an order mandating that all classes from 1 through 12 be closed on Monday.
