The Delhi Police have cleared the main suspect in the acid attack on a 20-year-old woman near Laxmi Bai College, after CCTV footage confirmed he was not at the scene during the assault.
Investigators found footage from Karol Bagh showing the accused riding his motorcycle at the same time the attack took place. This evidence proved his absence and cleared him of involvement in the incident that shocked the capital earlier this week.
The victim alleged that the man threw acid on her while she was walking to college.
However, during questioning, the accused maintained he was at work in Karol Bagh. After verifying the footage, police confirmed his statement and formally ruled him out of the case.
Meanwhile, in a major twist, investigators arrested the victim’s father, Akil Khan, for sexually assaulting the accused’s wife. This revelation has complicated the case, exposing what officers describe as long-standing personal enmity and revenge motives between the two families.
Acting on a tip-off, police tracked down Khan, a 45-year-old factory owner from Mukundpur, hiding at a relative’s house in Ghaziabad.
They arrested him late Monday and brought him back to Delhi under tight security. Senior officers at Bharat Nagar police station said they would interrogate him intensively to determine if he influenced or fabricated parts of the original acid attack complaint.
Although police have not yet filed charges against Khan in the acid attack case, they suspect a connection between both incidents.
The attack occurred on October 26 at 10:52 AM, when the victim, a Delhi University Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board student, suffered burns on her hands and stomach. Doctors at Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital treated her immediately, while forensic experts confirmed the substance as a strong acid causing five per cent burns.
As the investigation progresses, police are now focusing on family disputes and retaliation motives, shifting attention away from the initial suspect.
