A dense fog has blanketed Delhi-NCR on Saturday morning. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the weather conditions as cloudy skies with light rain in the region. Cold conditions are expected to persist, offering no immediate relief from the dense fog and cold waves.
The IMD has forecast cloudy skies with light rain or drizzles during the morning hours on January 11 and 12. The city has experienced a sharp drop in temperature over the past 24 hours, with readings dipping as low as degree 1 Celsius as per IMD. The maximum temperature ranged between 18-22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature ranged between 6-8 degrees Celsius.
The fog is expected to clear gradually, and light rain may extend its impact. IMD predicts that the minimum temperature in the national capital will drop further to around 5 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
With this, the visibility conditions in several areas of the national capital dropped to 50 metres, however, it improved to 200 metres later.
Apart from this, the Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory. At 6 am, the Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory, stating that low visibility could affect flights not equipped with CAT III compliance. However, officials reported that flight operations remained normal, with low visibility procedures in place.
Meanwhile, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reintroduced Stage III restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Thursday amid a decline in air quality. Authorities made this decision after they lifted the restrictions due to improving weather conditions.
Meanwhile, on Friday, temperatures ranged between 6°C and 20°C, and the capital experienced chilly and foggy weather. The IMD reported that the minimum temperature in Delhi was 9.6 degrees Celsius.
