Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: CM Rekha Gupta Announces Rs 2,500 Monthly Aid For Women

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana on Wednesday, providing eligible women with monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 through Direct Benefit Transfer. She distributed approval and verification certificates to the first beneficiaries and initiated the transfer process.

The launch coincided with Raksha Bandhan. Gupta said the scheme had reached women across the national capital.

More than 9.22 lakh women have registered since the government launched the scheme on August 1.

The Chief Minister said authorities formally issued certificates to the first 2,500 beneficiaries. She stressed that women’s empowerment remains vital to household and national progress.

CM Rekha Gupta said Prime Minister Narendra Modi consistently advocates empowering women. She argued that the country cannot resolve its broader challenges unless women progress, prosper and overcome their difficulties.

Beneficiaries welcomed the financial assistance. One woman said the scheme had provided a major financial boost ahead of Raksha Bandhan.

Another called it a ‘symbol of women’s freedom’. She said homemakers could now gain greater financial independence instead of relying solely on household breadwinners.

Speaking to IANS, BJP MLA Anil Goyal described the launch as the fulfilment of a promise made during the Delhi Assembly election campaign. He said eligible beneficiaries would receive Rs 2,500 directly in their bank accounts.

Goyal termed the initiative a ‘Modi Guarantee’ and said the BJP government had honoured its electoral commitment. He added that the development demonstrated consistency between the party’s promises and actions.

The Delhi government introduced the scheme to extend financial support to eligible women and strengthen their economic autonomy.
