Delhi Government Aims To Triple Hospital Bed Capacity, Says CM Rekha Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has pledged to significantly overhaul the Capital’s public healthcare infrastructure, announcing a target to increase hospital bed availability to three beds per 1,000 citizens.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony for a new footpath at SU Block park in Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency, CM Gupta highlighted her administration’s commitment to improving health services a clear departure, she noted, from the inaction of previous governments.

A Bold Health Goal Amid Dire Statistics

Delhi’s Chief Minister revealed that a recent high-level health committee meeting exposed a startling shortfall: Delhi currently has just 0.47 hospital beds per 1,000 people.

This figure stands far below the World Health Organisation’s recommended minimum of two beds per 1,000 citizens.

“I was shocked to learn the extent of the deficiency,” CM Gupta said. “Not even one bed per 1,000 citizens—this is unacceptable. We are now working to ensure Delhi reaches a standard of three beds per 1,000 people.”

She urged local and national authorities to adopt a more integrated approach, stating, “Whether with the MCD, Delhi Government or the Central Government, we must create a unified system so that no Delhiite is deprived of treatment or loses their life due to inadequate facilities.”

Marking 100 Days Of Governance

The Chief Minister used the opportunity to reflect on her government’s first 100 days in office, saying it had focused on practical, people-centred policymaking.

“With everyone’s blessings, our government completes 100 days on 30 May. On 31 May, we will present our report card to the public,” she said. “I don’t make big promises. But I assure you, this is a government that strives to solve problems, not create them.”

She further emphasised that the administration had directed many of its early policy decisions at long-neglected public grievances and accused previous governments of using political conflict as an excuse to avoid action.

“This lack of effort was a serious disservice to the people of Delhi,” CM Gupta added.

Rollout Of Ayushman Bharat In Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also hailed the successful implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the Capital. She credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enabling the rollout and described it as a transformational move for the city’s elderly population.

“Thanks to your mandate, Ayushman Bharat is now active in Delhi. These individuals are now eligible for treatment worth up to ₹10 lakh—₹5 lakh from the Centre and ₹5 lakh from the Delhi Government,” CM Gupta further announced.

“This level of healthcare coverage has no parallel anywhere in the world,” she claimed, adding that it clearly shows how seriously the new government is addressing healthcare access.

Public Trust And Acknowledgement

Concluding her address, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed gratitude for the support she has received since taking office.

“I sincerely thank Prime Minister Modi and every citizen who voted for change. Your single vote has helped push Delhi forward on the path of development,” she further noted.

The gathered residents applauded her remarks, signalling growing anticipation ahead of her government’s 100-day performance report.
