Just a day after a shocking attack at her Civil Lines residence, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta resumed work on Thursday with renewed determination.
She announced that she will now hold her public hearings in all 70 Assembly constituencies of the capital. Earlier, she had confined them to her home.
In a post on the social media platform, CM Gupta drew inspiration from her father’s advice during her college days.
Recalling a major car accident that once left her fearful, she shared how her father encouraged her not to give up after setbacks.
Taking to X, she posted, “When I was in college, my father gave me a car to drive. One day a big accident happened. I got scared and I was afraid to touch the car again. Then my father said that accidents happen in life, you should not stop out of fear. You cannot stop walking on the road.”
“Today I am reminded of his teachings. Yesterday another accident happened, but I can never stop fighting for the interests of Delhiites. Every moment of my life and every particle of my body is dedicated to Delhi. I will never leave Delhi despite all these unexpected attacks,” the post read.
The Delhi CM further added, “Anyway, women have double strength to fight troubles. They have to go through countless tests to prove themselves. I am also ready!”
“Now public hearing will not be held only at my house but in every assembly constituency of Delhi. Your Chief Minister, at your doorstep,” she posted.
Earlier in the day, CM Gupta met all seven Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from Delhi at her official residence in Civil Lines.
Sharing a photo of the meeting, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal posted on X, “Today, along with all my fellow MPs from Delhi, I met the popular Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt @gupta_rekha ji and enquired about her well-being. The Chief Minister is completely healthy and is continuously engaged in the work of the people of Delhi with full enthusiasm as before.”
On Wednesday, 41-year-old Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya from Rajkot, Gujarat, allegedly slapped and pulled CM Gupta’s hair during a public hearing at her residence. Police have since arrested the accused and remanded him to five days of custody.
In response, authorities have upgraded CM Gupta’s security to Z+ level, with CRPF personnel deployed outside her residence to ensure her safety.
Despite the attack, Gupta remains committed to public interaction and transparency.
Observers see her announcement to hold hearings in every assembly as a strong message of defiance. They also view it as a reaffirmation of her pledge to serve Delhiites directly.
