Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Attacked During Weekly ‘Jan Sunvai’ At Official Residence

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during her weekly ‘Jan Sunvai’ at her official residence in Civil Lines on Wednesday, raising serious concerns about her security.

According to sources, a man suddenly hurled a heavy object at the Chief Minister during the public grievance session, causing her to fall to the ground.

Preliminary unverified reports indicate that the attacker, in his 30s, slapped the Chief Minister, pulled her hair, and verbally abused her before police restrained him.

The Delhi Police have arrested the suspect and are interrogating him. While the exact motive remains unclear, initial reports suggest the man handed over papers to the Chief Minister and referred to a court case before the assault.

Authorities have not yet provided an official account of the incident. The Chief Minister is under medical observation to assess any injuries sustained during the attack.

Security Lapse Under Scrutiny

Officials view the incident as a significant security lapse. Authorities have heightened security at the Chief Minister’s residence following the attack. Top officials from the Delhi Police, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), are on-site, and a formal investigation is underway at the Civil Lines police station.

The attack drew immediate condemnation from political leaders. BJP state chief Virendra Sachdeva denounced the assault and is reportedly on his way to the Chief Minister’s residence to express solidarity.

Chief Minister Gupta conducts the ‘Jan Sunvai’ every week to hear public grievances, with hundreds of citizens attending. The session aims to address community issues directly, but Wednesday’s incident highlights the potential security challenges of such open interactions.

Authorities will release further details as the investigation progresses, including the exact circumstances of the attack and the extent of the Chief Minister’s injuries.
