Delhi Chief Minister Credits Women Voters For Election Outcome In West Bengal

On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the decisive election result in West Bengal was driven by the strong participation of women voters, describing it as a sign of democratic strength.

Speaking after visiting a temple in the CR Park area of New Delhi, CM Rekha Gupta said women in the state had voted with unity and determination despite challenges, shaping the final outcome.

The Delhi CM also criticised opposition leaders, stating that parties which had resisted measures aimed at increasing women’s representation were now facing political setbacks.

The remarks come as Bharatiya Janata Party prepares to form the government in the state after securing a clear majority, ending the long tenure of the All India Trinamool Congress.

The Election Commission of India released data showing that it declared results for nearly all constituencies, with one seat pending repolling.

The BJP won 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, comfortably crossing the threshold required for a two-thirds majority.

The Trinamool Congress secured 80 seats, while smaller parties, including the Congress and left groups, managed only a handful of constituencies.

In terms of vote share, the BJP led with about 52 per cent, followed by the Trinamool Congress at 41 per cent, with the remaining votes split among other parties.

The results also reflected significant regional shifts, with the Trinamool Congress failing to secure seats in several districts, signalling a notable change in the state’s political landscape.
