In response to deteriorating road conditions, Delhi cabinet ministers conducted inspections of PWD roads across the capital on Monday. This initiative follows a letter from AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal, urging Chief Minister Atishi to initiate repairs.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot led a teaam to Najafgarh, where he assessed the roads’ poor condition, particularly the stretch from Najafgarh to Jharoda Border. “The maintenance by the PWD has been inadequate, and this year’s heavy rains have exacerbated the situation,” he stated.
Gahlot emphasized that, similar to Kejriwal’s earlier inspections, the entire Cabinet is actively observing the conditions on the ground. “We walked through several areas to see the problems first-hand,” he noted.

The minister assured residents that repair work would commence on October 3. He acknowledged that road conditions have reached a level not seen in the past decade and pledged noticeable improvements soon.
During his inspection, Gahlot witnessed a woman slipping on a damaged road while riding her scooter. He stopped to speak with her and her daughter, assuring them that repairs would be prioritized.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai also joined the inspections, focusing on North-East Delhi. He announced that the PWD has been instructed to collaborate with Metro officials to address pothole issues swiftly.
AAP Minister Mukesh Ahlawat added that some roads will require complete reconstruction, while others will only need patchwork. “We will assess the extent of repairs needed. The excessive rainfall this year has caused significant damage,” he explained.
The inspection of roads is expected to conclude within a week. Following this, the repair work on approximately 1,400 kilometers of PWD roads will begin in earnest.
