Delhi Building Collapse: CM Rekha Gupta Orders FIR Against Owner, Strict Action Against Negligent Officials

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered an FIR against the owner of the building that collapsed in Satya Niketan and directed strict action against officials found responsible for negligence or oversight.

CM Gupta said the old building collapsed after waterlogging weakened its pillars. She ordered authorities to immediately seal buildings in Delhi with a fifth floor as part of measures to prevent similar incidents.

The Chief Minister said authorities had evacuated the building behind the collapsed structure and would demolish it as a precaution. She further made it clear that authorities would not allow public activities or student accommodation in buildings without structural safety certification.

The government has arranged accommodation for students evacuated from the affected area and is coordinating with their parents to address their needs.

CM Gupta visited the site again on Monday morning to review rescue, relief and security arrangements. She further ordered intensive inspections of nearby paying guest (PG) accommodations and other buildings, directing authorities to seal properties where they find violations.

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said rescue teams had manually cleared around 80–90 per cent of the debris. He said the adjacent building remains in a dangerous condition, prompting the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to conduct operations carefully.

Sirsa said the Chief Minister had directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner and Chief Secretary to suspend officials found responsible, regardless of their rank. He further called for structural audits of public utilities and buildings to prevent unsafe structures from putting lives at risk.

The Delhi government has intensified inspections and safety measures following the collapse, with officials facing strict action if investigations establish negligence.
