Delhi Building Collapse: Amit Shah Speaks To CM Rekha Gupta, Takes Stock Of Satya Niketan Rescue

On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Police Commissioner and NDRF Director General to take stock of the situation after a building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area.

In a post on X, Shah said he was ‘deeply distressed’ by the incident and had assessed the situation on the ground. He said the local administration and NDRF were conducting intensive rescue operations in close coordination, while all necessary medical assistance was being provided to the injured.

The Minister cancelled his scheduled events in Goa after learning about the building collapse in Delhi.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence were carrying out rescue operations at the site.

CM Gupta said the adjoining building had been evacuated as a precautionary measure. She added that authorities were making every possible effort to rescue those trapped and provide immediate assistance to affected families.

The Chief Minister said the situation was being closely monitored. All concerned agencies were working in coordination. She said the safety of citizens remained the administration’s priority.

The collapse took place near Shiv Mandir in Satya Niketan, RK Puram.

Delhi Police said the building was around 40-50 years old and comprised a basement and five upper floors.

The structure was being used as paying guest accommodation for students. Repair work was underway in the basement when the incident occurred.

Delhi Police said six people have been rescued from the debris so far. Rescue teams continue searching the site. They are looking for anyone who may still be trapped.
