Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed profound sorrow and condemnation following the tragic death of five Indian Army soldiers in a terrorist attack in Badnota, Kathua (J&K).
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Rajnath Singh expressed deep anguish over the loss of five Indian Army soldiers in a terrorist attack in Badnota, Kathua (J&K).
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, affirming the nation’s solidarity with them.
Rajnath Singh noted ongoing Counter Terrorist operations aimed at restoring peace. He also prayed for the swift recovery of those injured in the attack.
The incident occurred when terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle in the Badnota area of Kathua district on Monday, resulting in the martyrdom of five soldiers, including a JCO, while five others sustained injuries.
A significant Cordon & Search Operation (CASO) is currently ongoing in the area to track down and neutralize the terrorists responsible for the attack.
The Army has deployed elite Para commandos in the region, airdropping them as part of the operation.
This attack has evoked widespread condemnation from the public and political leaders alike.
Notably, this is the second major terror incident in Kathua district in recent weeks, highlighting the persistent security challenges in the region.
Earlier incidents include a gunfight on 12 June and 14 June in Hiranagar, where two terrorists and a CRPF jawan were killed during a search operation.
Additionally, a deadly attack on 9 June in Reasi district claimed the lives of nine pilgrims returning from Shiv-Khori temple, further underlining the volatile security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
J&K DGP R R Swain has indicated that a group of foreign terrorists remains active in the rugged terrains of Poonch, Rajouri, and neighboring districts, exploiting the area’s terrain and remoteness to carry out their nefarious activities.
