CP Radhakrishnan Felicitated At NDA Meet; Consensus Talks Underway

The NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday in the national capital felicitated CP Radhakrishnan, the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) Vice-Presidential candidate.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced him to the parliamentarians, praised his unblemished political career, and appealed for his unanimous election to the post.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju briefed the press after the meeting, stating that NDA MPs and floor leaders warmly welcomed Radhakrishnan and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for nominating him. PM Modi urged lawmakers to rise above party lines and unanimously support Radhakrishnan’s candidature.

“He has lived a life free of controversy and corruption. His political journey reflects simplicity, integrity, and tireless service to society and the nation,” Rijiju said, adding that the nominee’s experience would strengthen the functioning of the Upper House.

Consensus Building Across Parties

Rijiju also confirmed that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is engaging with leaders across the political spectrum to build consensus.

Efforts are underway to persuade opposition parties to support Radhakrishnan and avoid a contest.

The BJP has particularly reached out to parties in Southern states, highlighting Radhakrishnan’s Tamil roots and his successful stint as Tamil Nadu BJP chief.

His candidature has already received backing from Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss. He described him as the right choice for the Vice President’s office.

Radhakrishnan, originally from Tamil Nadu’s Kongu region, served two terms as a Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore.

The Governor of Maharashtra currently enjoys recognition for his dedication to public service and his clean record in politics.

If elected, he will bring decades of political experience and administrative skills to the constitutional role of Vice-President. NDA leaders believe his approach will be instrumental in conducting Rajya Sabha proceedings smoothly and with dignity.

The Tamil Nadu BJP unit has appealed to the DMK and other INDIA bloc parties to extend their support. With growing endorsements, the NDA hopes to secure not just a victory but a unanimous mandate for Radhakrishnan’s election.
