A major accident was narrowly avoided on Sunday night when the Kalindi Express hit a gas cylinder placed on the Kanpur-Farrukhabad railway track. The train, headed to Bhiwani, struck the cylinder, but it did not explode. The impact threw the cylinder aside, preventing a derailment. If the train had toppled, it could have caused significant loss of life and property. The Kalindi Express was traveling from Kanpur Central to Bhiwani via Anwarganj station when the incident occurred near Shivrajpur.
Passengers and crew heard a loud thud as the train passed Shivrajpur station. The driver, moving at high speed, did not stop immediately but reported the incident upon reaching the station. RPF Inspector OP Meena inspected the scene and found a gas cylinder and other suspicious items on the track. The cylinder, though thrown far away, remained intact. The inspector suspected an attempt to derail the train.
Rajendra Singh, PRO of Izzat Nagar North Eastern Railway Division, confirmed the conspiracy to derail the train. The authorities have started an investigation and tightened security along the railway route to prevent further incidents.
The quick action by railway staff and the failure of the cylinder to explode helped avoid a potential disaster.
