A day after the Union Budget announced special assistance for Assam’s flood management, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi has moved a notice to discuss the severe flood situation in the state.
Gogoi highlighted the devastating impact of the floods, which have claimed 90 lives, affected 12.33 lakh people across 24 districts, and submerged 2406 villages and 32924.32 hectares of crop area. He emphasized the dire need for immediate rescue and relief efforts, as well as long-term solutions like infrastructure improvements and flood management strategies.

The Congress leader described the situation as a “humanitarian crisis” and urged the House to take up an urgent discussion on the critical issue. His move comes after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced special assistance for Assam’s flood management in her Budget speech, which was welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The discussion is expected to focus on the Centre’s response to the crisis, the adequacy of the announced assistance, and the need for sustained support to mitigate the effects of recurring floods in Assam.
