Congress Backs Karnataka Government Amid Bengaluru Stampede Enquiry

The Congress high command has conveyed its full support to the Karnataka government during the ongoing judicial enquiry into the tragic stampede at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations that claimed 11 lives.

On Tuesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar met Congress leaders in Delhi, including Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, to brief them about the incident.

AICC National General Secretary KC Venugopal addressed the media following the meeting and assured that the party would not interfere in the probe.

Party expresses deep concern over loss of lives

“We are very much concerned about every human life,” said Venugopal. “The Government of Karnataka has already ordered a judicial enquiry to determine the facts. During this process, the party will not delve into the issue’s details.”

He said the party has instructed the state leadership to maintain a clear pro-people stance.

Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala also attended the meeting and participated in the discussions.

Caste census and Centre-State issues discussed

The Congress leadership also discussed the caste census conducted by the state government.

Venugopal said the party agreed in principle with the census but acknowledged concerns regarding outdated data. He added that the Congress has advised a re-enumeration within 60–70 days to ensure accuracy.

The leaders also raised the issue of Karnataka’s marginalisation by the central government.

Venugopal accused the Modi government of unfair Plan allocation and said such neglect towards Karnataka was unacceptable.

The Congress reaffirmed its backing of the Karnataka government’s actions and stressed that justice must prevail through the judicial process.
