Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in the newly sworn-in Manipur government. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh will lead the administration.
PM Modi stated that the government will diligently advance development. He added that it will ensure prosperity for the people of the state.
The Prime Minister congratulated Singh and other ministers at a simple oath-taking ceremony held at the Lok Bhavan in Imphal.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Congratulations to Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh Ji on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Manipur. I would like to congratulate Smt. Nemcha Kipgen Ji and Shri Losii Dikho Ji on taking oath as the Deputy Chief Ministers of the state and Shri Konthoujam Govindas Singh Ji as well as Shri Khuraijam Loken Singh Ji on being sworn in as Ministers in the Manipur Government.”
“I’m confident they will work diligently towards furthering development and prosperity for my sisters and brothers of Manipur,” the post further read.
Chief Minister Khemchand Singh took the oath and spoke to the media. He assured that he would honour the trust placed in him by PM Modi.
Khemchand Singh promised to meet the expectations of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President Nitin Nabin.
The council, however, has two Deputy Chief Ministers: Nemcha Kipgen of the Kuki community and Loishi Dikho of the Naga community.
Kipgen is the only woman minister in the cabinet.
The new leadership emphasised inclusiveness.
Singh further stated the government would address the needs of all 36 communities in Manipur, restore peace, and strengthen ethnic harmony.
Dikho reinforced this commitment, saying the administration will actively engage with every community to fulfil public aspirations.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the swearing-in ceremony. Ministers from the BJP, NPF, and NPP also took the oath.
The Khemchand Singh-led government will expand later, with seven ministerial positions remaining vacant.
President Droupadi Murmu revoked President’s Rule in Manipur on 4 February 2026.
This ended months of uncertainty after last year’s ethnic unrest displaced over 70,000 people.
The BJP-led NDA holds a majority with 37 MLAs and support from allies and independents. This allows Khemchand Singh to form a stable government.
