Speaking at the event, CMD Upendrra Rai highlighted the vital role of journalism in nation-building and social awareness. He said that journalism is not merely a profession but a powerful medium that reflects society and strengthens democracy.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition in his home district, CMD Upendrra Rai noted that the values and culture of Ghazipur had inspired him throughout his professional journey.

Journalists, scholars and prominent citizens extended a warm welcome to CMD Upendrra Rai upon his arrival in Ghazipur.

The event witnessed participation from media professionals and intellectuals from across the district.

In a touching gesture, organisers also honoured the families of deceased journalists, recognising their contributions to the profession. The initiative received widespread appreciation from attendees.

CMD Upendrra Rai has devoted 29 years to Hindi journalism and has held senior editorial and leadership positions in several leading media organisations. Throughout his career, he has championed value-based journalism and upheld professional integrity.

India observes Hindi Journalism Day annually on 30 May. The occasion commemorates the launch of Udant Martand, the country’s first Hindi newspaper, founded by Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla in 1826.

The publication played a pioneering role in giving Hindi-speaking communities a voice. It also laid the foundation for the growth of Hindi journalism.

Speakers at the ceremony also emphasised that journalism continues to serve as the fourth pillar of democracy.

The event underscored the importance of a free and responsible press. It highlighted the media’s role in informing citizens, safeguarding democratic values and contributing to national development.
