CM Yogi Adityanath Unveils Major Welfare Schemes For UP Police On Police Smriti Diwas

On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath introduced a series of welfare initiatives to improve benefits and facilities for police personnel across the state.

He announced these schemes during his speech at the Police Smriti Diwas ceremony in Lucknow, a day dedicated to honoring the sacrifices of fallen police officers.

In his address, UP CM emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of law enforcement officers.

Among the key measures was a substantial 70% increase in uniform allowances for all police personnel, alongside a 25% hike in housing allowances for constables living in barracks.

CM Adityanath Highlights Importance Of Police Smriti Diwas, Honoring Martyrs’ Sacrifices

The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of Police Smriti Diwas, observed annually on 21 October to honor the ten police officers ambushed by Chinese forces in Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959.

This day honors all police martyrs who have sacrificed their lives in service to the nation.

Among other significant announcements was an additional allocation of Rs 10 crore to support police athletes participating in national and international sporting events.

This increase will however bring the total budget for athletic training and expenses to Rs 115 crore in the next fiscal year.

The aim, according to CM Adityanath, is to encourage greater participation and success for UP police personnel in competitive sports.

A new corpus fund of Rs 1,380 crore was also revealed, designated for the maintenance of multi-story police quarters and administrative buildings across the state.

Meanwhile, this is to ensure the upkeep and long-term sustainability of police infrastructure.

CM Adityanath Emphasizes Government’s Crackdown On Organized Crime

CM Adityanath also highlighted the government’s relentless crackdown on organized crime. He noted that of 68 mafia-related cases, the courts sentenced 31 mafia leaders and their 66 associates to life imprisonment, with two receiving the death penalty.

Additionally, the government has seized illegal assets worth Rs 4,057 crore from these criminal gangs over the years.

On public safety, the Chief Minister praised the work of the Anti-Romeo Squad, which has conducted over one crore inspections between March 2017 and October 2024.

Meanwhile, authorities have taken action against over 3.68 crore individuals to ensure public safety, with a focus on protecting women.

CM Adityanath honored the families of fallen police officers by announcing that the government has allocated Rs 36.2 crore to support the dependents of 115 police and paramilitary personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

He also noted that the government has allocated Rs 3.5 crore to enhance the living conditions of police personnel in various districts, Rs 4 crore for their general welfare, and Rs 30.56 lakh to settle 266 medical reimbursement claims for active and retired officers and their dependents.

Further emphasizing the government’s commitment to the police force, the Chief Minister revealed that since 2017, authorities have recruited over 1.54 lakh new police officers, including more than 22,000 women.

Additionally, authorities have promoted over 1.41 lakh personnel, with recruitment ongoing for more than 60,000 new positions.

CM Adityanath Honors Sacrifices Of 17 Martyrs & 1,618 Injured Officers

During his speech, CM Adityanath acknowledged the sacrifices of 17 police officers who were martyred in the last seven years while maintaining peace and law and order in the state.

Additionally, he also recognized the efforts of 1,618 officers injured during this period.

In an additional public order initiative, CM Adityanath mentioned the success of a campaign to regulate noise pollution at religious sites, leading to the removal or noise control of over 1,08,037 loudspeakers in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines.

Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar, who was also present at the event, expressed gratitude for the new measures announced by the government.

He noted that the increased uniform and barrack allowances, as well as the enhanced sports fund, would significantly boost the morale of the police force.

He also praised the government for its direct recruitment of Olympic athletes into senior police ranks, calling it a reflection of the Chief Minister’s support for excellence within the force.

Kumar highlighted the introduction of lift facilities in multi-story police buildings and noted that officials have established a dedicated corpus fund to ensure the proper maintenance of these structures in the future.

Addressing concerns about heightened security in Delhi following a blast in the Rohini area, the DGP assured that the Uttar Pradesh Police remain vigilant and ready to respond to any threat.

The announcements made on Police Smriti Diwas reflect a broader commitment by the Uttar Pradesh government to improving the welfare, infrastructure, and operational capabilities of the state’s police force while honoring their service and sacrifice.
