Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a significant contribution to safeguarding the state’s territorial limits and interests.
While addressing the 47th foundation day programme of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rongmei village of Noney district, CM Khemchand Singh pointed out that PM Modi had assured in Parliament that the territorial integrity of Manipur would remain protected.
He further noted that the Prime Minister upgraded the Centre’s ‘Look East Policy’ into the more action-oriented ‘Act East Policy’, designed to enhance connectivity with Southeast Asian countries through trans-Asian routes.
CM Khemchand Singh also conveyed his appreciation to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for assuring continued assistance towards the state’s development and the well-being of its citizens, adding that the BJP remains committed to the Northeast.
The Chief Minister recalled that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had created the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region to accelerate growth in the hilly Northeast.
He attended the event at Longmai Part-3 Multipurpose Hall while on his way back to Imphal after a three-day visit to Jiribam district, which borders Assam.
BJP MLA Dipu Gangmei warmly received CM Singh, while Rongmei Naga dancers performed traditional dances to welcome him.
Along with State BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, he unfurled the party flag at Longmai Common Ground in Noney town as Vande Mataram played.
Joined by several BJP legislators, CM Singh paid floral tributes to party ideologues Deendayal Upadhyaya and Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
After reaching Imphal, the Chief Minister received a warm welcome from women at Nupi Keithel 1 and later offered prayers to Goddess Leimarel Sidabi, seeking her blessings.
Earlier, CM Khemchand Singh, along with the state BJP president, addressed an election rally in Rongpur to support BJP candidates Rajdeep Goala and Milon Das, who are contesting from the Udharbond and Hailakandi Assembly constituencies in Assam’s Barak Valley.
The Barak Valley region, which includes Cachar, Sribhumi and Hailakandi districts, has a notable Manipuri population. Polling for the 126-member Assam Assembly will take place on April 9, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
CM Singh had undertaken a two-day visit to Jiribam district before travelling to southern Assam to participate in the election campaign in the poll-bound state.
