CM Rekha Gupta Orders 24×7 Yamuna Monitoring As Flood Risk Persists In Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday directed officials to maintain round-the-clock surveillance of the Yamuna water level and ensure swift relief for flood-hit residents in low-lying areas.

After holding a review meeting with District Magistrates, the Chief Minister posted on X, “Today, I held an online meeting with all the District Magistrates of Delhi to review the water level of the Yamuna and the situation of heavy rainfall.”

She further added, “Today, I held an online meeting with all the District Magistrates of Delhi to review the water level of the Yamuna and the situation of heavy rainfall.”

Water Level Eases Slightly, Fresh Rain Threat Ahead

The Yamuna water level at the Old Railway Bridge dropped slightly to 207.31 metres at 8 AM on Friday, down from 207.48 metres on Thursday — the season’s highest reading. This marked the fifth time the 207-metre mark has been breached since 1963.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate rainfall for Delhi on Friday. Heavy rain, thunder, and lightning are expected on 6 and 7 September.

A brief respite is likely on 8 September, followed by another wet spell on 9 September. Skies will likely remain partly cloudy on 10 September.

Temperatures during the week will likely range between 34–35°C, with minimums around 23–25°C, meteorologists said.

CM Reviews Camps, Stresses Essential Services

Earlier this week, CM Gupta visited flood relief camps near Geeta Colony Flyover and the Old Iron Bridge. She interacted with displaced families and assured them of full support from the government.

She directed officials to ensure uninterrupted supplies of essentials such as clean drinking water, food, medical aid, and safe shelter in all relief camps.

The Chief Minister said all departments were on high alert and actively working to minimise the impact of floods. She urged citizens to remain calm and assured them that the situation is under close watch.
