CM Gupta Leads Cleanliness Drive At Shalimar Bagh; Urges Residents To Uphold Swachh Bharat Goals

On Tuesday, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta actively engaged in a cleanliness initiative at Shalimar Bagh, appealing to residents to uphold hygiene and contribute to the Swachh Bharat campaign.

Accompanied by Delhi Ministers and senior BJP leaders, the Chief Minister took part in the ‘Swachhta drive’ organised under the Sewa Pakhwada initiative.

Launched to mark the Prime Minister’s 75th birthday, the drive will continue until 2 October.

Addressing the reporters during the drive, CM Gupta stated, “Cleanliness should be an everyday practice. When I came here, I saw garbage everywhere. There is littering here, and this is polluting the city. We have undertaken this cleanliness drive under the Sewa Pakhwada. Cleanliness is something we must follow daily.”

She also appealed to political leaders, asserting, “Don’t put up posters; this is my special appeal to political leaders. Especially, please do not use my photos in the posters. We will not tolerate any defacement of our city.”

Delhi Ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Parvesh Verma, and state BJP president Virendra Sachdeva also joined the drive.

In a related development, the Delhi government on Monday permitted the use of loudspeakers and public address systems until midnight for Ramlila, Durga Puja, Dussehra, and other associated festivities.

The relaxation, effective from 22 September to 3 October, was approved by Lt Governor VK Saxena following a formal request from the government.

Commenting on the decision, CM Gupta noted, “Hindu festivals used to face difficulties as Ramleela and Durga Puja celebrations cannot conclude at 10 PM. When Dandiya can go on all night in Gujarat, then what is the fault of Delhiites? That is why we have decided that the speakers can go on till midnight.”
