A major portion of the Langnai Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam suffered severe damage on Monday evening after an intense cloudburst in the Batkoot area triggered flash floods across the region.
The powerful torrents damaged the bridge on the Aishmuqam–Pahalgam road, disrupting connectivity and forcing officials to suspend vehicular movement.
Restoration teams and engineers reached the site to assess the damage and begin repair work.
The flash floods also affected both the Anantnag–Pahalgam road and the Duchnipora road, two key routes leading to Pahalgam.
Traffic on both roads has remained suspended since Monday evening.
The cloudburst caused the Lidder River and several nearby streams to swell rapidly, resulting in flooding at multiple locations.
The sudden rise in water levels triggered panic among residents and tourists in the popular hill destination.
Officials have urged commuters to avoid the affected routes until restoration work is completed and the roads are declared safe for travel.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as water levels and weather conditions remain under close watch.
