A shocking incident occurred on Tuesday in Pithampur, Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, when a Class 10 student gave birth in the washroom of her examination centre while taking her Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education mathematics paper.
The student complained of severe abdominal pain during the exam and, with the invigilator’s permission, went to the restroom. There, she unexpectedly went into labour and delivered a baby boy.
When she did not return, the invigilators checked the locked washroom and heard the newborn’s cries. The centre immediately alerted the 108 ambulance service.
Doctors at the Community Health Centre in Pithampur confirmed that both mother and baby are stable and under observation. They arrived at the facility around 5 PM with normal vital signs.
Police registered a zero FIR at Pithampur police station and transferred the case to Betma police station in Indore district, where the student resides.
Vijay Dabur, ASP Dhar, confirmed the student was appearing for her board exams on Tuesday.
During interrogation, the student revealed she had been in contact with a young man for the past two years.
Police have identified the accused and are working to apprehend him. Legal proceedings under provisions protecting minors are underway.
The incident alarmed students and staff at the centre and drew nationwide attention.
Authorities assured the public that the investigation is closely monitored, and all necessary steps are being taken to ensure justice.
This case underscores the need for stronger awareness and protective measures for minors and highlights the importance of rapid medical response during emergencies.
