CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke, Two Party Members Detained At Delhi Airport

Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and party members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday ahead of their planned protest at Jantar Mantar, police said.

Police officers boarded the aircraft carrying Dipke after it landed and detained the three members.

Dipke shared a video showing the officers entering the flight. In the video, he can be heard saying, “I have come here to be arrested; arrest me.”

The CJP confirmed the detentions in a social media post, stating, “ABHIJEET DIPKE, SAURAV DAS AND ASHUTOSH RANKA DETAINED FROM INSIDE THEIR FLIGHT.”

The detentions took place ahead of the party’s planned demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Dipke had travelled from Mumbai to Delhi earlier on Saturday to lead the protest.

Earlier, Gurugram Police reportedly detained YouTuber Dhruv Rathee at his residence ahead of the demonstration.

Rathee had attended a protest against the SIR process in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Delhi Police have tightened security across the National Capital ahead of the planned gathering. Officers are checking vehicles at the city’s borders and wearing body cameras to record any untoward incidents.

Authorities have, however, strengthened security outside the residences of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Police are using drones to monitor key locations. Several Metro stations, including Supreme Court and Mandi House, have been closed as part of the security arrangements.
