Chief Justice: Allahabad Has Been a Hub of Knowledge for Centuries

During the inaugural ceremony of Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University in Prayagraj, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud highlighted Allahabad’s longstanding status as a center for knowledge and the exchange of ideas. He emphasized the pivotal role of lawyers in nation-building and the dispensation of justice.

“Allahabad has served as a hub for knowledge and intellectual exchange for centuries. The University of Allahabad, often referred to as the Oxford of the East, has been a beacon of knowledge for the past 137 years. Lawyers have made significant contributions to nation-building,” he stated.

Chief Justice Chandrachud underscored the multifaceted role of lawyers in society, emphasizing their contribution to legal systems and the promotion of justice by protecting the rights of individuals and entities.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath echoed the importance of the rule of law in governance during his address at the event held at the Medical Association’s auditorium. He praised the Bar and Bench for their role in establishing a model of good governance in Uttar Pradesh.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining public trust in the judicial system, CM Adityanath warned against the consequences of a loss of faith in democracy, stressing the need to strengthen India’s democratic institutions.

He highlighted the significance of dialogue in democracy, ensuring that avenues are available for individuals to communicate their grievances directly to the government. CM Adityanath assured the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns.

He urged Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University to launch specialized training programs for young advocates statewide, covering new legislation and judicial processes.

CM Adityanath affirmed the government’s dedication to advocating for the interests of lawyers in Uttar Pradesh and pledged continued support. The event saw the presence of Supreme Court Justice Manoj Mishra, Justice Rajesh Jindal, Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Arun Bhansali, Uttar Pradesh Government Advocate General Ajay Kumar Mishra, Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi,’ and other dignitaries.
