‘Chhathi Maiya Ki Beti’: Modi Story Pays Tribute To Folk Singer Sharda Sinha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured the memory of Bihar’s celebrated folk singer, late Sharda Sinha, on her first death anniversary, highlighting her pivotal role in promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage.

Taking to X, the Prime Minister acknowledged that Sharda Sinha’s soulful songs during Chhath Mahaparv and her devotion to folk music had left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions.

The popular social media handle Modi Story shared inspiring insights from Sharda Sinha’s life, underlining how her songs beautifully connected tradition with contemporary sensibilities. Rising from the heart of Mithilanchal, her voice symbolised India’s culture and faith, giving new recognition to folk music at both national and global levels.

A video shared by Modi Story featured her son, Anshuman Sinha, who reflected on his mother’s unwavering devotion to Indian culture and her commitment to balancing civilisational heritage with modernity.

A Legacy Recognised by the Prime Minister

Anshuman recounted a cherished moment when Prime Minister Modi referred to Sharda Sinha as the ‘Chhathi Maiya ki Beti’ during a gathering in Mithilanchal, recognising her extraordinary contribution to Indian folk music.

He also recalled her 2018 meeting with PM Modi following her Padma Bhushan award, describing how the Prime Minister lauded her excellence and her dedicated service to Bihar’s cultural legacy.

Anshuman highlighted that Sharda Sinha deeply respected PM Modi for his appreciation of both art and governance, often expressing that national progress requires culture to be valued equally.

Recently, PM Modi shared one of Sharda Sinha’s iconic songs on social media, noting that her music captures the essence of Indian folk sentiments and continues to resonate with people across generations.

Through her immortal voice and heartfelt devotion, Sharda Sinha’s legacy endures as a bridge between India’s cultural roots and its modern identity, leaving an enduring imprint on the nation’s musical heritage.
