Centre Launches New Aadhaar App With Face ID And QR Code For Secure Digital Verification

The Central Government on Tuesday launched the new Aadhaar app, offering users a digital and secure way to verify and share their Aadhaar details—without carrying physical cards or photocopies.

Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, unveiled the app in the national capital.

Calling it a leap in digital convenience, Vaishnaw said the new Aadhaar app will make verification faster, easier, and safer.

“Face ID authentication via mobile app. No physical card, no photocopies,” he announced in a video posted on X.

The app lets users share only necessary Aadhaar data, and only with consent.

“Now, with just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control,” Vaishnaw added.

Face ID authentication is a key feature, ensuring seamless and secure verification.

The app also enables Aadhaar verification through QR code scanning—similar to UPI payments.

“Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making UPI payments,” Vaishnaw wrote.

With this digital system, people no longer need to hand over Aadhaar photocopies at hotels, shops, or airports.

“No need to hand over Aadhaar photocopy at hotel receptions, shops or during travel,” he emphasised.

Currently in beta testing, the app includes strong privacy safeguards. It prevents data tampering or misuse and requires user permission before sharing any information.

Vaishnaw also highlighted Aadhaar’s role in government initiatives and urged stakeholders to integrate artificial intelligence with digital public infrastructure while keeping privacy central.

The new Aadhaar app marks a key milestone in India’s digital journey.
