On Monday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the schedule for assembly elections in five Indian states: Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. This announcement came after extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including political parties and enforcement agencies, in preparation for these elections.
The voter’s list for these elections is quite extensive, comprising 8.2 crore male voters, 7.8 crore female voters, and an impressive 60.2 lakh first-time voters. The Election Commission (EC) has made special efforts to ensure the inclusivity of electoral rolls, with a particular focus on improving the roll-to-poll conversion process. To accommodate this vast electorate, there will be 1.77 lakh polling stations across the states, and a webcasting facility will be made available at 1.01 lakh polling booths.

Chhattisgarh- November 7 and 17 (Two-phase)
Madhya Pradesh- November 17

In terms of the political landscape, the Congress party currently holds power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governs Madhya Pradesh. Telangana is under the leadership of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and Mizoram is governed by the NDA partner Mizo National Front (MNF).
With the announcement of the election dates, the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced, setting guidelines and standards for political conduct during the campaigning and voting process. These state elections hold significant importance as they precede the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May next year, making them a crucial precursor to the larger national elections.
