CBI Expands Investigation; Scrutinizes Adjacent Rooms At RG Kar Medical College

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital by examining adjacent rooms near the seminar hall where the crime initially occurred.

The expanded focus aims to uncover whether someone committed the crime elsewhere and then disposed of the body in the seminar hall or if the seminar hall was the actual crime scene.

Investigators are focusing on two adjacent rooms and a washroom under scrutiny.

One of these rooms, used for medical examinations, has raised questions due to recent renovation attempts by state PWD staff on 13 August, the same day a Calcutta High Court division bench ordered a CBI investigation into the case.

The urgency of the renovation has piqued the CBI’s interest, prompting officials to explore whether it was an attempt to alter evidence.

The timing of the renovation, just hours after the court’s directive, appears highly suspicious.

Additionally, the CBI is examining discrepancies in the complaint letter submitted by the victim’s family, specifically the absence of a time stamp.

Accurate timing is crucial for establishing the gap between the complaint submission and FIR registration, which can provide insights into the investigation’s delays.

The agency is also scrutinizing the delay in notifying the police about the victim’s body.

The local Tala police station was informed at 10:10 AM on 9 August, about 25 minutes after the body was discovered.

The CBI is seeking to understand the reasons behind this delay and whether it has impacted the case’s investigation.
