BSF’s Indigenous Dog Squad To Dazzle At National Unity Day Parade In Honour Of Sardar Patel

India will celebrate National Unity Day 2025 on 31 October to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of modern India’s unity.

In a unique tribute, the Border Security Force (BSF) will showcase 40 indigenous dog breeds in a historic parade at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat — home to the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity.

The parade will feature India’s very own Mudhol hound from Karnataka, Rampur hounds from Uttar Pradesh, and Rajapalayam hounds from Tamil Nadu — all trained by the BSF for security, tracking, and rescue operations.

Known for their lightning agility and discipline, these dogs have consistently outperformed many foreign breeds in strength, endurance, and adaptability.

In a video shared by the BSF on social media, the canine unit can be seen in full form, displaying exceptional coordination and precision.

The performance highlights the country’s growing commitment to indigenous breeds under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, reflecting national pride in local excellence.

Symbol of Unity and Strength

These highly trained dogs will perform drills, obstacle runs, and formation movements during the parade, symbolising the spirit of unity, alertness, and teamwork — values that resonate deeply with Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India.

Their participation also honours the bond between India’s armed forces and their loyal companions who safeguard the nation’s borders.

The BSF has emphasised that including indigenous breeds in ceremonial events demonstrates confidence in India’s domestic breeding and training capabilities.

It is also part of the government’s wider mission to reduce dependence on foreign dog breeds used by security forces in the past.

Celebrations at Ekta Nagar

The Run for Unity, a nationwide event encouraging citizens to celebrate Sardar Patel’s legacy, will also coincide with the parade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address the nation from Ekta Nagar, where the Indian Air Force will present an aerial salute, followed by cultural performances reflecting the theme of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.

By spotlighting indigenous dog breeds, the BSF aims to inspire confidence in Indian excellence and promote the idea of ‘Vocal for Local’.

On National Unity Day 2025, 40 BSF dogs will parade at Ekta Nagar, symbolising unity and self-reliance.

This year’s celebrations thus blend tradition, pride, and innovation — honouring not only the man who united India but also the spirit of self-reliance that continues to define the nation’s march forward.
