BRICS Summit 2026: Xi Jinping Arrives In New Delhi For First India Visit In Nearly Seven Years

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, marking his first visit to India in nearly seven years.

President Xi’s visit comes as India and China continue efforts to stabilise bilateral ties following the deadly Galwan clashes in 2020.

India has consistently stressed that maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border is essential for the continued development of bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping will hold bilateral talks on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.

The meeting will give both leaders an opportunity to discuss the broader trajectory of India-China relations, border issues and ways to strengthen communication.

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said China and India were making arrangements for the meeting between President Xi and PM Modi. He said China would work with India to implement the strategic guidance provided by both leaders and manage bilateral relations from a long-term and strategic perspective.

Feihong said PM Modi and President Xi would meet for the third consecutive year, following their previous meetings in Kazan, Russia, and Tianjin, China.

President Xi is travelling with senior officials, including Cai Qi and Wang Yi.

PM Modi and Xi briefly met at the SCO Summit in Bishkek and are expected to hold detailed talks in Delhi.

India and China continue engagement to maintain border stability and improve ties. Both sides support resolving differences through dialogue.

Xi’s BRICS participation will strengthen India-China engagement.

The summit brings together leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, along with outreach invitees, to discuss cooperation and global and regional issues of mutual interest.
