Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Global South’s confidence in BRICS has grown as the grouping hears its voices and respects its experiences.
Addressing the closing session of the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Sunday, PM Modi said the grouping’s strength lies in its diversity and cooperation.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to balance economic development with environmental protection. He said India’s civilisational ethos has always treated nature with deep respect and viewed development and environmental protection as complementary rather than competing priorities.
PM Modi highlighted several initiatives under the BRICS framework aimed at supporting sustainable development. He pointed to the BRICS Digital Centre of Excellence for smart grids and energy storage, saying it would help make clean energy systems more reliable, efficient and accessible.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised the importance of combining traditional knowledge with modern science, particularly in agriculture, climate adaptation and environmental sustainability.
According to PM Modi, the Centres of Excellence for agroecology and regenerative agriculture will help connect traditional practices with modern scientific approaches.
Community-based climate initiatives can make indigenous knowledge a foundation for climate action.
PM Modi said BRICS is increasingly important to the Global South, giving countries a platform for their concerns and experiences. He stressed that solutions should be developed with them, not just for them.
PM Modi called for greater collective action despite differences in national circumstances and priorities. He said cooperation among diverse nations could contribute to wider global progress and serve humanity.
The Prime Minister concluded by stressing that diversity should remain the grouping’s identity, cooperation its inspiration and collective progress its shared objective.
